Our Story:

Several disable children with has very sad situation in Ghana.

They are much neglected by society,sometime even parents.Nothing about social life or playing with peers are found in their lives.

Sometimes some children have to stay indoors for ours while parents are out for farming activities,while other able kids also go out to play and go for school.

In Ghana only few schools are established by government and private people to educate and train disable persons.

Sometime very expensive for ordinary poor people to send their children.

In our district with about 6 million people has no special school for disable persons.

Spreading Cultures operating a school for less privileged children in Ghana. For years now we have realised the greatest need to support children of different disabilities in our districts and communities.

We have started construction of few facilities to begin enrollment for 65 disabled children from January 2021.

Purpose

Opening of a Multi-functional Center for Youth Aggregation and Community Development in the rural village of Have, Volta Region, Ghana, to give the possibility of permanent educational and recreational support to children and adolescents and to their peers with physical and psycho-physical handicaps of the villages in the area and their families, in order to allow a path of accompanying growth in an environment that fosters significant emotional and educational relationships; the Center is designed to become a point of reference for the community in the chosen area as the promoter and engine of educational, cultural and social gathering initiatives.

This project has its roots in the method called Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) promoted by the WHO and is based on the concept of inclusive development on a community basis, which provides for the improvement of the quality of life for people with disabilities and their families not only thanks to satisfy basic needs but guaranteeing inclusion and participation in community life, thanks to the joint efforts of people with disabilities, their families and their communities.

Beneficiaries:

The beneficiaries of the project will mainly be children with disabilities and their families, but the research and awareness-raising work will concern the communities as a whole and the authorities of the villages and the District.

In particular, 65 disabled children not attending the school are distributed in the area, of whom 20 live very far away from the Center (around 5 km), therefore we have planned to buy a second hand minivan to take them to the Center and back home.

Sustainability of the minivan: the van shall work as public transport after bringing the disabled children to school in order to gain funds for maintenance and fuel.

General purpose: to give children and adolescents and their peers with disabilities a reference place where to meet and play, do recreational and educational activities together in order to produce a change in the perception of disability and handicap within the family and the community.

RESTRUCTURING AND BUILDING OF SPACES

Existing spaces:

Six classrooms are existing from kindergarten to primary and have 154 children among whom only 3 disabled attending school daily.

Planned spaces to build or renovate (why we need support)

Two classrooms are in construction process to have better repartition of the classes but need support to be finished

Two additional classrooms and a toilet are needed for educational activities especially for the disabled

Pipe connection for potable water (at the moment tanks are used because there is no current water)

Operators employed

Number: 7 full-time and international volunteers part-time

1 local manager will carry out general coordination tasks and will take care of institutional relations with the authorities, schools and families

1 specialized teacher responsible for the educational activities of the Center, and for the drafting and monitoring of the educational plans

5 teachers already working in the school
